If an American voter does not have to show proof of eligibility to vote then the politicians do not have to show proof of eligibility to run for office. However, if an American politician has to show eligibility to run for office, according to the US and state constitutions, then the voter has to show proof of eligibility to vote and it is incumbent on the federal and state government to provide a pathway to show this proof and that proof cannot cost the voter money to obtain that proof. Without proof of eligibility to vote any person can fraudulently run for any office and be fraudulently voted for or against by any person, American or otherwise without fear of apprehension, punishment or retribution.
